Director of Marketing & Fundraising Position Description

Mission: To follow the job responsibilities to the highest degree of ethics and integrity to achieve the KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc. mission of providing professionally trained guide, service, and facility dogs for people in need of a canine partner to enhance their independence, to fully function in society, and/or to enrich their professional career responsibilities with the ongoing support of our trainers to ensure proficient working partnerships.

Supervision: Reports to the Board of Directors

General Job Responsibilities:

  • Understand the concept of providing quality services to KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc’s clients and their families, including the importance of teamwork
  • Learn and understand the KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc. organization history, staff responsibilities, organization vision, and mission
  • Remain current and updated on disability issues and ADA guidelines
  • Serve on fundraising committees and direct fundraising activities, programs, and events
  • Serve as a member of various staff committees as assigned
  • Participate in required continuing education (CE) programs approved by the CEO
  • Sign a “Do Not Compete” statement with KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc.
  • Agree to maintain a continuing commitment to confidentiality, courtesy and professionalism toward the staff, clients, donors, volunteers, and the public

Specific Job Responsibilities: Marketing Director & Fundraiser

  • Primary responsibility is to raise money for KSDS operations and programs
  • Create and implement charitable events and marketing opportunities on social media
  • Personally commit time and effort soliciting donors and/or sponsorships
  • Build strong relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, and organizations
  • Assist with organizing a development plan along with the CEO and other staff assigned by the CEO
  • Expand the target audience of KSDS through community relations, speaking engagements, and charitable events
  • Monitor the progress of fundraising drives
  • Develop a media kit and media contact list
  • Recruit sponsors, participants, or volunteers for fundraising events
  • Secure commitments of participation or donations from corporate donors
  • Cooperate with the grant writer in determining which grants to pursue
  • Be knowledgeable regarding tax advantages of contributions to potential donors
  • Be willing to travel on approved trips
  • Oversee social media and efforts to raise funds through various social media avenues (i.e., Facebook, Website, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Be willing to attend community, regional, and state events, meetings, and conferences to promote organizational goals or solicit donations or sponsorships
  • Contact corporate representatives, government officials, or community leaders to increase awareness of organizational causes, activities, or needs
  • Write reports or prepare presentations to communicate development program data
  • Learn how to use Matchmaker and Constant Contact programs
  • Assist other staff in learning how to use development software and social media fundraising programs
  • Prepare and send thank you notes or other appropriate appreciation acknowledgements to individuals, organizations, corporations, volunteers, etc. who contributed to the success of a KSDS activity

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • College degree preferred or equivalent work experience related to primary job responsibilities
  • Must have strong written communication skills
  • Ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive funding proposals
  • Attention to details and has a commitment to accuracy
  • Have the ability to meet deadlines
  • Possess knowledge of foundation, corporate, and other fundraising techniques
  • Must have core computer skills in word processing, database management, and electronic communications, including social media
  • Possess knowledge of the workings of a nonprofit organization
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of assistance dog laws, rights, access rights, and related information

Job Specifications:

  • Full time position, compensation is dependent on experience, benefits included. Work location is the KSDS administration building and travel is expected.
